If you could take a pill every morning that would guarantee you a stress-free, calm, and productive day, would you take it?

 

 

I know I would! What about if it didn’t come in a pill form, but was a daily practice that you took part in? Even better, right? Good news! It exists. It is called mediation. 

Meditation is a mental exercise that should be performed frequently (ideally every day) that involves mindfulness, relaxation, and focus to avert your mind to the present moment. Meditation is one of the oldest forms of medicine dating back more than 5,000 years. This practice is still widely used throughout the world today to alleviate stress, decrease anxiety, and refocus your mind so that you may perform at your best each day. 

Meditation, in the simplest form, is the art of relaxing your mind, stepping away from your thoughts, and finding an inner space filled with calmness and peace. Allowing yourself to move into this mental space gives you the ability to handle situations with a clear, calm mind. By creating inner space, you become open and receptive to new thoughts and ideas. You gain a sense of control where you can choose your thoughts and actions in a rational manner. Through meditation, we quiet the inner noises that cause self-doubt, anxious thoughts, and negative feelings. Easing yourself out of bad thoughts and refocusing your mind to be filled with positivity allows your level of productivity to increase.

One of the best ways to handle stress is through the practice of meditation. Through this practice, we are exercising our minds, allowing us to manage our busy thoughts. By relaxing your mind, your stress levels decrease. You move from feelings of stress to feelings of confidence and calmness. Through meditation, we step back from the chaos of the world and start to step into a sense of our own real power. We give ourselves the right to make clear choices and actions. Through the day to day chaos, we may experience we tend to stray from our own internal emotional compass. Meditation brings us back to True North. The more we practice meditation, the easiest it is to handle situations that may be filled with stress and anxiety. 

I encourage you to take 5 to 10 minutes a day to practice meditation before you begin your day. Find a calm, quiet place to relax, close your eyes, and open your mind. Picture yourself clearing your mind of negative thoughts to leave open space for positivity. Repeat mantras to yourself that are conducive to your inner peace. Control your breathing, taking deep breaths in through your nose and slowly release and breath out through your mouth. Imagine that with each deep breath you take in you are breathing in positivity and exhaling negative thoughts and anxiety.
